New Feature – Species list report

From March 2024, Dandjoo will produce a species list for an area of interest inclusive of all known species that has been evident within the area of interest through observation and survey.

Output within the species list will include Western Australian (WA) conservation listed species, subjected to an obfuscation method consistent with principles outlined within the Restricted Access Species Data framework (RASD).

Note: Whilst WA conservation listed species are evident their true location is obscured and is included as a guide only.

Lists are automatically generated based on the underlying data for the area of interest and come from a range of datasets curated by BIO’s Science Officers before publishing to Dandjoo.

Species lists are a useful mechanism to understand the biodiversity that could be found in certain areas.

It’s important to recognise that this is only a predictive tool and is best used to inform fieldwork, never instead of fieldwork. Still, it’s a useful way to explore Western Australia’s globally renowned biodiversity from the comfort of your home, school, or work desk.

How to

At present species list can be generated following application of any search option(s) within Dandjoo and can be downloaded by all users.

What data is included?

Species list reports include the following data attributes will also be included.

  • Accepted name (dwc:acceptedNameUsage)
  • Conservation code (dwc:threatStatus)
  • Kingdom (dwc:kingdom)
  • Phylum (dwc:phylum)
  • Class (dwc:class)
  • Order (dwc:order)
  • Family (dwc:family)

What we are working on

Mining Tenements, DBCA managed conservation areas, and Local Government Areas can now be searched by code, license number, or name in the Location search box.

The PDF Species List report, based on user feedback, shows species by Conservation status and Kingdom from user-defined searches, with definitions included. Each species entry lists Class, Family, names, Establishment status, and Conservation code.

We have added functions to be able to search, view and download (where available) Systematic Survey Data in the Dandjoo platform.

To enhance value of data for users the following additional data attributes have been added to the data exports to better assist in data filtering.

We have been working hard and now bring you two new ways to search in Dandjoo. These are Kingdom search and Latitude & Longitude search.
